Assistance to orphaned and handicapped children in institutional care

Purpose

A large number of children were left orphaned as a result of the conflict in Chechnya and many were left maimed.  Given the inadequacies of the medical resources and medical support systems a number of handicapped children are left without adequate care. Our objective is to contribute to the provision, and supplying of prosthetics, aids for the deaf and the blind.

Actions taken

In 2006 MARCCH visited a school for deaf children in Grozny and we are aware of a great need in this area.

Throughout 2003, 2004 and 2005, until they returned to Chechnya, MARCCH was paying rent and expenses for an orphanage in Ingushetia

Future plans

MARCCH would like to assess and address the needs of handicapped children more directly in future.
